The Egyptian Court of Cassation is the highest court in the Arab Republic of Egypt.
Duties and Functions of the Court of Cassation
1- Deciding on appeals against judgments issued by the courts of appeal in cases whose value exceeds 100,000 pounds - Article 248 of the Civil and Commercial Procedures Law
2- Deciding on the appeal of the final judgment issued in contravention of a previous judgment - Article No. 249 of the Civil and Commercial Procedures Law.
3- Deciding on the Public Prosecutor's appeal against final judgments - Article No. 250 of the Civil and Commercial Procedures Law.
4- Deciding on a request to reconsider the cases stipulated in Article No. 441 of the Code of Criminal Procedure and Article No. 241 of the Civil and Commercial Procedures Law
5- Deciding on appeals against final judgments issued by the last degree in felonies and misdemeanours - Articles 30 and 35 of Law No. 57 of 1959 regarding cases and procedures for appeals before the Court of Cassation.
6- Examining the Public Prosecution’s presentation of the death sentence - Article 46 of the Law on Appeal Cases and Procedures before the Court of Cassation No. 57 of 1959 regarding cases and procedures for appeal before the Court of Cassation.
7- Deciding on appeals against judgments issued by the Judicial Departments’ Departments - Article 83 of the Judicial Authority Law No. 46 of 1972.
8- Deciding on appeals against judgments issued in articles of felonies and misdemeanours, and judgments issued starting from the appellate circuits of the Economic Court - Articles 11 and 12 of Law No. 120 of 2008 promulgating a law establishing economic courts.
9- Deciding on the challenge to the validity of the membership of the House of Representatives - Article 29 of Law No. 46 of 2014 promulgating the Law of the House of Representatives.
10- Deciding on the application submitted for the appointment of the competent court in the event of a conflict of jurisdiction between the courts - Article 227 of the Code of Criminal Procedure
11- Deciding on the request submitted by the Public Prosecutor to suspend the execution of the judgment for reconciliation in the cases stipulated in Article 18 bis b of the Code of Criminal Procedure, Article 133 of Law No. 88 of 2003 promulgating the Central Bank, Banking System and Money Law
12 - Deciding on an appeal against the decision issued to be included in the terrorist lists - Article 6 of Law No. 8 of 2015, regarding the organization of terrorist entities and terrorists
13- Deciding on challenges to the validity of the convening of the general assembly and the formation of the Syndicate Council for each of the unions of doctors, medical professions, dentists, educational professions, lawyers, and adjudication of appeals against decisions issued by them in accordance with the conditions stipulated by the laws of those unions
